The Shock Silhouettes

Silhouettes as political visual art: Those silhouettes symbolize the killing, or violent disappearance, of 30,000 people due to state terrorism in the course of Videla's military regime from 1976 to 1983 in Argentina. This form of artistic expression was first conceived in 1983 as an initiative of a group of Buenos Aires artists. It is seen as a powerful action against the silence of subsequent governments, and as a way of representing the memory, the injustice done to, and the human rights of the ones missing in post-dictatorship Argentina. Photographs taken in Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, in 2019. (Work in progress)
