BIOGRAPHY
Eva Otaño Ugartemendia aka Eva Otaño Ugarte was born in Donostia-San Sebastian, Basque Country, Spain. She studied visual arts at Centro de la Imagen in Barcelona, journalism at Basque University in Bilbao, and computer graphics at UCLA in Los Angeles. In 1989, at age 25, she traveled to Berlin, when the Wall came down two months after her arrival. After one year of living in West Berlin, she moved to the district of Berlin Mitte (East Berlin) and started taking photographs. In the late 90s, she moved to Los Angeles, where she lived until 2002. Presently she is based in Berlin. Exploring the intersection between documentary, art, and concept, she has worked on a variety of photographic projects in such different locations as Berlin, Los Angeles, Haiti, Thailand, and Brazil. Furthermore, she is involved in such activities as art direction (internet life shows), graphic and web design, and visuals installations for theater plays and performances. Her work has been exhibited in Berlin, the U.S., Thailand, Spain, Japan, and Austria.
